He was born in Albany, a son of the late Anna and Wilhelm Waldschmidt. Formerly of Gloversville, Arnold moved to Catskill as a child. He served in the US Navy and then graduated from Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, Ohio. Arnold then worked on nuclear subs for Electric Boat in Groton, CT during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
He married Linda Hiatt on October 23, 1965. Arnold retired as a welder from Atlantic Cement/Blue Circle Cement, Ravena.
One sister, Anna Opalka, died previously.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Linda, are three daughters Corrina Bright of League City, TX, Tanya Ernst of Catskill and Gesa Rappleyea of Catskill; seven grandchildren Nadia Muller, Ezra, Noah, Jeremiah, Shaya and Tessa Ernst and Heidi Rappleyea; one great granddaughter Anya Muller and one nephew Eric Opalka.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 at the west-end of the Town of Catskill Cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at the Waldschmidt residence; all are welcomed. Arrangements by Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. MillspaughCamerato.com.
