Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Ballard Buyak, 80, Of Gloversville, NY passed away May 6, 2017after a long illness.

She was born June 17, 1936 in New Milford, CT., the daughter of the late Wesley and Grace Wright Pomeroy.

Elizabeth enjoyed various talents; sewing, (making the wedding gowns for her three daughters and a daughter-in-law), teaching Sunday School at the Catskill Wesleyan Church (now CrossPointe church) and was the leader of the Wesleyan Youth program for several years. She and her children enjoyed hiking the Catskills. She was an avid photographer and a collector of Greene County History, contributing several albums on the subject to the Greene County Historical Society at the Bronck House in Coxsackie, NY.

She started driving school bus in 1970 and made it a 36-year career in the Catskill School District, and two years for Coxsackie Transport, with an additional six months for Brown Transportation, Fonda, NY. In recent years she has been living in Lehigh Acres, FL where she was heavily involved with the Alva Library and Museum, along with the Alva Garden Club.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband, William Buyak; her step-mother, Mrs. Beulah Pomeroy; her two sisters, Gay P. Johnson-Steiner and Lynn L. Karolyi; four brothers and their wives, Larry Pomeroy and Marlyn, Gary Pomeroy and Inez, Wesley Pomeroy and Kate, and Charles Pomeroy and Donna; her children and spouses, Denia Phillips, Donald Phillips Jr. and JoAnne, George Phillips and Julie, Diana Phillips-Mabb and Michael Mabb, Patti Myers and Roger Hoose; her three step-children and spouses, Richard Ballard and Arlene, George Ballard, and Michele Myers-Platt; her eleven grandchildren; her six step-grandchildren; her five great-grandchildren; her ten step-great-grandchildren; and her 13 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by former husbands, Donald Phillips, Richard "Bucky" Myers and James "Jimmy" Ballard.

Calling hours will be from 5:00 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday at Millspaugh-Camereto Funeral home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill, NY. The funeral service will be the next morning at 10:00 am on Thursday May 11, 2017 at the CrossPointe Wesleyan Church 3 Bogardus Ave, Catskill, NY followed by committal service at the Town of Catskill Cemetery.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society.
