Born in Youngstown, OH
Resided in Catskill, NY
She was born in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late John and Gladys Suszczynski. After graduating high school in 1944, Blanche became a member of the "Rosie the Riveter" movement, as she assisted in the war effort by welding tank treads in a steel mill in Youngstown. After the war, Blanche graduated from nursing school in Buffalo where she met and married on September 4, 1948, John Wilhelm, her beloved husband of 53 years.
During most of Blanche's fifty year career as a registered nurse she worked at the Catskill Hospital. Because of the compassionate care and comfort she provided, she was loved by her patients.
Blanche loved entertaining friends and family and was known as a fabulous cook. Her specialties included pierogi and her infamous cheesecakes. Her greatest love was her love of her family, whether it was at a summer pool party, a holiday gathering or going to a Yankee game with her boys.
Blanche is survived by two sons John (Suzanne) Wilhelm of Loudonville and Terry (Cheryl) Wilhelm of Catskill; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Bryan) Shields, Amy Wilhelm, Jason (Suzanne) Wilhelm, Jessica (Cory) Birk, Nicole Wilhelm, Ryan Wilhelm, Tyler Wilhelm and Stephanie Wilhelm; two great grandchildren Nicholas and Maddyson.
