A native and lifelong Catskill resident, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Charles Story, Sr. and Virginia Blakelock Story Hasko. She married Donald George Doney, Sr. June 25, 1955. A New Paltz College graduate, for many years Carol was a teacher at Catskill Central School. She first taught at Rowena and then 1st Grade at Irving School. A member of the Kiskatom Reformed Church, Carol belonged to the National Audubon Society and Monday Club.

Donald George Doney, Jr., (Cathy) of Rye, NH, Virginia Doney Benedict (Michael) of Greenville, and Brian Matthew Doney (Wendy) of Palenville; sister of Nancy Story McTigue (John) of Lancaster, CA, Thomas Eden Story, Sr. (Marcella) of Palenville, David Carl Story of Catskill, and the late Matthew Charles Story, Jr.; sister in law of Margaret Story of Catskill, Geraldine VanVechten of Leeds and Shirley Bushnell of South Cairo; grandmother of Berkley Kavakos Young, Carly Kavakos Batista, Peter Charles Kavakos and Brenna Rose Kavakos, Kyle Andrew Denniston, Kurt Raymond Denniston, and Sarah Beth Denniston, Donald George Doney, III, Charlotte Rose Doney and Morgan Mackenzie Doney, Corinne Rose Smith, Lydia Nadine Smith and Adam Christopher Smith, Westin Alexander Doney, Autumn McKinnon Doney and Madison Rose Doney; great grandmother of James Christopher Young, Jr., Jacob Charles Young, Franchesca Batista Kavakos and Maya Batista Kavakos and Mika Beth Denniston. Many nieces and nephews and her four life-long friends from New Paltz College also survive.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 11:00 – 1:00 pm at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Heights, Catskill. A Funeral Service will then be conducted on Friday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, Rev. Kent Busman will officiate. Interment will follow in Town of Catskill Cemetery.
