She was born on September 29, 1919 in Kiskatom, New York to the late Harry Bovee Overbaugh and Ethel M. Ormerod Overbaugh. She attended a one room elementary school and was a 1937 graduate of Catskill High School, the first class to graduate from the new school at that time. On October 9, 1940, she married Maurice "Mickey" Brandow. Catherine was the bookkeeper for her husband who operated a mobile grocery route in Greene County until their retirement in 1976.
Catherine was past president of the Leeds PTA as well as clerk of the school board; member and past president of the Catskill Women's Republican Club; member of the Town of Catskill Republican Club; Republican committee person for the Town of Catskill; past president of the Greene County Senior Council Department for the Aging; past chairman of the Advisory Board of the Department for the Aging; member of the Greene County Historical Society; member, past Regent and Chaplain of the On-Ti-Ora Chapter NSDAR and member of the NYS Officer's Club of NSDAR.
She was a dedicated member of the Leeds Reformed Church having served as both Deacon and Elder, taught Sunday School for 23 years, organist for 10 years, treasurer for 25 years, and was a member and past president of the Women's Club of the church as well as serving as a delegate to the Columbia-Greene Classis for many years.
Catherine was a life member of the Rip Van Winkle Senior Citizen Club and the Catskill Senior Fellowship Club, holding offices in both clubs as well as being a tour guide with them for 16 years.
She was also an Election Inspector for the general elections and the CHS School Elections for over 35 years.
Catherine loved to crochet, cook, garden in addition to being an excellent seamstress.
She is survived by her three loving daughters: Maureen Beach and her husband Johnston of Newburgh, NY, Kathleen Kodrich of Morris, NY, and Eileen Murphy and her husband Patrick of Highland, NY; six grandchildren: Brandon Beach and his wife Julia, Amy Beach , Emily Hain and her husband Toby, Kathleen Quick, Christine Estes and her husband Aaron, and Patrick Murphy; five great-grandchildren: Kajee and Desiree Quick, Pierce and Jackson Beach, and Tenly Hain; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband on August 4, 1980, her son Duane Brandow on June 5, 2008, son-in-law Ralph Kodrich, two brothers: Jerry and Ted Overbaugh in addition to her sister Shirley Black.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 29 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill with Rev. Doris Tietjen officiating. Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery and members of the On-Ti-Ora Chapter NSDAR are requested to attend her grave marking ceremony following the Committal. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home from 11 prior to the funeral.
