Obituary

Constantino "Stan" Lappa, 93, of Catskill passed away on July 2, 2016 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Stan was born in Searights, PA, son of the late Pio and Assunta Benedetti (Lappa) Cavicchioni. He is predeceased by his wife Dena Lappa in July of 1965 and two sisters, Mary Laurita and Amy Marafioti.
He graduated from trade school and became associated with his father, as a partner, in building custom homes and general contracting.
Stan was drafted into the US Army during WW II and served with the 56th Signal Corp in the First Army. He was overseas for 30 months.

Returning from service, he went into the manufacturing of prefabricated wood stairs. He opened his first stair company in 1948, the Corona Stair Co. in Queens. He founded his second company in 1954, The American Stair Company in Brooklyn. In 1958 Stan opened the third company, Taney Supply and Lumber in Taneytown, MD. The companies manufactured stairs and special millwork for the Army, Navy and Air Force as well as many banks, cruise lines and businesses throughout the state. He was also a partner in the Fairbank Knitting Mill in Uniontown, PA and part owner of Ridge Colony Resort, Bar and Restaurant on Broome St., Catskill. He was a 45-year member of the Honeyford Memorial Post #110, American Legion, Catskill.

In 1965 Stan sold all his businesses and moved to Catskill to be with his family. He became Building Inspector for the Village and Town of Catskill in 1967 until retirement in 1977.

Surviving are his sister Dolly Cavicchioni, Catskill, his nieces Janette Laurita, Patricia Hogan (Michael), Daria Kostek (Edward), Lisa Marafioti, his nephew Joseph Marafioti (Kelly); eight great nieces Melissa Toomey (Peter), Michelle Pletka (Philip), Diana Bixby (George), Jessica Gravelin (Marc), Heather Hogan, Elizabeth Marafioti, Meghan Marafioti and Erin Marafioti; six great great nieces and nephews Delilah Toomey, Camilla Pletka, Luke Gravelin, Ruby Bixby, Pierce Toomey and Carsten Pletka.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts. Catskill. A Funeral Service will be conducted by Fr. Chris Berean, on Saturday (Stan's birthday), at the funeral home, at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with military honors by the American Legion and the NY Army National Guard Honor Guard, will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
