Doris Jenkins, age 94, died peacefully on Palm Sunday, April 9th.

Doris lived a full life, serving her family and community for nine decades. She was born on September 9, 1922, in Albany to T. Harvey and Ethel Patten Holmes. Raised on a truck farm in that city during the Great Depression, she graduated from Milne School in 1940 and from Cornell University in 1944. In September of that year, Doris married Second Lieutenant Dr. DuBois Jenkins, recently graduated from Cornell Veterinary College and stationed on Grosse Isle, an island in the St. Lawrence River. Doris worked as a dietitian at General Cable in Rome, NY through WWII. After VE Day the couple moved to Gadsen, GA, where "Doc" was stationed. While living there, Doris was recruited to teach in the local school.

In 1946, Doc and Doris moved to Catskill, "Jenks" joining the veterinary practice of LL Parker on Academy Street. Doris integrated into small town living as a member of the First Reformed Church, the Fortnightly Club, and Scouting, while entertaining local friends, professional and Rotary International colleagues who visited from around the world.

She was the first woman (eventually president) of the Catskill School Board, a member of the BOCES board, the Greene County Council on the Aging, and a 30 year volunteer serving Meals on Wheels. Doris and Doc were enthusiastic supporters of CHS sports, enjoying all the events of their grandchildren, especially the wrestlers who honored them at many matches.

Doris is survived by a brother, Thomas Harvey Holmes of Raleigh, NC; three children, Nancy (Jenkins) and Larry Krablin of Downingtown, PA, Richard and Sandra (Lynk) Jenkins of New York City, and David and Patrice (Engelsen) Jenkins of Catskill; and eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
