Born in Leeds, NY on July 3, 1918, she was the wife of the late John J. Decker for 62 years and the daughter of the late Harry E. and Beatrice Deyo Tompkins.
A Catskill residence all of her life and a graduate of Catskill High School, Mrs. Decker was a devoted member of the Catskill United Methodist Church where she was very active and served as treasurer of their Memorial Fund for many years. She was a 50 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Hose Co. #1 as well as having been very active with the Boy Scouts of America with her three sons. Mrs. Decker worked as the Guidance Office Secretary in the Catskill High School for many years after starting with the Grandview Elementary School.
Mrs. Decker is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Richard and Sharon Decker of Saugerties and Thomas and Mary Jane Decker of Catskill; six grandchildren: William Decker of Red Hook, Lisa Rivenburgh, Benjamin and David Decker all of Catskill, Donald and Toni Jo Decker of Joplin, MO; as well as six great-grandchildren; brother Harold Tompkins and sister Florence Gavigan, both of Catskill; in addition to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her son Donald Decker in 1984, brother Chester Tompkins and husband John J. Decker on October 27, 2004.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 11 a.m. in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill with Rev. Art Hewitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 an 7-9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church on Woodland Avenue in Catskill and envelopes are available at the funeral home.
