Mr. Rogers was born in Alson on November 21, 1924 to the late Walter and Lillie Sherman Rogers. He enlisted in the US Marines on April 1, 1943 and served as a "China Marine" during the Occupation of Japan until his discharge as a Corporal on May 26, 1947. He married the former Dorothy "Margie" Sauerzopf and was a routeman with Moons Dairy in Catskill. On October 14, 1950 he was called in from inactive duty to the US Army and served with the 984th Engineer Maintenance Co. earning the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars and was discharged as a Corporal on December 16, 1952. He retired as a truck driver for Mitchell Transportation in Alsen and was a member of the Retired Teamster Union. He was a member of the VFW and Marine Corps League.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife Grace Ricci Angelo Rogers whom he married on November 26, 1989; his daughter Mrs. Glenn (Bonnie) Walsh and son Edward Rogers, Jr. (fiancee Dina Ross); five grandchildren: Chris Rogers and his wife Mary, Amie Rogers, Jessica Walsh and her husband Simon Felice, Mrs. John (Meghan) Kelly, and Rodney Walsh; seven great-grandchildren: Edward Thomas Rogers II, Asia Rose, Joshua Walsh, Pearl Felice, Aubree Kelly, Amber and Jordan Walsh; step-children: Michelle and Ernie Moss; three step-grandchildren: Sabina Horne, Mrs. Michael (Jamie) Lynch, and Courtney DiCocco Loreto; four step-great-grandchildren: Connor Lynch, Maddie DiCocco, Liam and Emma Horne. He was predeceased by four brothers: Walter, William, Roy, and Alfred Rogers; sister Ethel Keator; grandson Edward Thomas Rogers; step-son Michael Angelo, Jr.; step-daughter Janice Rogers and first wife Dorothy M. Rogers on December 10, 1982.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 11 a.m. in the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Height with Rev. Ron Cox, Pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Town of Catskill Cemetery with military honors being provided by the US Marine Corps League. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Private cremation was conducted on Wednesday at the Albany Rural Crematorium.
