Born in South Cairo
Resided in Catskill, NY

Floyd Thomas Holdridge of Catskill, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Green Meadows Nursing Home following a brief illness. Floyd was 90.

Born at the family residence in South Cairo, Floyd was the 2nd of three children born to the union of the late Charles and Ethel Perry Holdridge. Floyd was a 1944 graduate of Cairo High School, and enlisted in the US Navy in February of 1945 where he served as a gunners-mate on the destroyer escort, USS Harmon which was stationed in the North Atlantic. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, Floyd secured employment with the Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. During his tenure with Central Hudson, Floyd rose to the position of General Line Supervisor for the Electric and Gas Divisions in the Greene and southern Albany County districts of CHG&E. Floyd held that position until his retirement in 1987 after 40 years of service with the company.

On July 18, 1948, Floyd married his "high school sweetheart", the former Helen Marie Dorpfeld, and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in 2010, prior to Helen's passing. A member of the Catskill United Methodist Church since 1949, Floyd served on numerous committees including the Board of Trustees where he held a variety of positions over the years. Floyd was a lifelong resident of Greene County, and during that time was active in coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and was a member of the Village Bowling League and the Old Timers Softball League for many years. Floyd participated in several "off broadway" plays to benefit the Catskill SPLASH Fund whose purpose was to construct a community pool for the village and town residents of Catskill. Floyd will always be remembered as somewhat of a gregarious individual who never met a person he didn't want to "offer" his opinion to and then thoroughly enjoy the challenge of defending it.

Floyd is survived by his daughter Gayle Holdridge-Carino of San Antonio, TX, his son Richard and daughter-in-law Mary Ellen of Catskill; five granddaughters, Jessica (Carter) Hines, Meagan (Christian) Bove, and Rebecca (Stephen) Pesek, all of TX, Erin (Matthew) Holdridge-Carlile of Catskill, Alison (Michael) Musella of Troy; seven great-grandchildren: Colston and Caden Hines, Gavin and Kaila Bove, Madeline and Jonathan Pesek, Madison Carlile, brother in law Tom Rogers of Cairo, brother in law and sister in law Frank and Grace Dorpfeld and sister in law Anne Dorpfeld, all of Acra. Additionally, Floyd is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Irene Haas and Hilda Rogers.
