Obituary

Frieda R. Post, 94, of 14 Walnut St., Catskill, passed away Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at The Pines at Catskill where she had been a resident since last summer.

Born on Sept. 25, 1921 in Yonkers, she was the youngest daughter and seventh of 10 children born to immigrants Anton and Julia Spring Reich. She spent part of her childhood at her family's farm in Gayhead, Greene County, where she attended a one-room school and later moved to Leeds.

She was a member of the Catskill High School Class of 1940.

She and her husband, Harold J. Post, were married on April 26, 1942 and celebrated their 73rd anniversary in 2015. During World War II, while her husband was overseas, Mrs. Post lived in Queens and worked at Underwood Typewriter Company in New York and Sperry Aircraft on Long Island where she assisted the war effort by helping build airplanes. During her employment there, Mrs. Post met Madame Chiang Kai-shek, First Lady of the Republic of China who visited the plant during her tour of the United States.
Mrs. Post spent most of her life as a homemaker, but was also a teacher's aide, helping students to read at Catskill Middle School.

Mrs. Post's greatest loves were her family and her Christian faith.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Brian (Bea) of Duncanville, Texas and Paul (Bonnie) of Glens Falls, New York; a grandson, Brian Christopher Post of Dallas; a granddaughter Catherine Elizabeth of Austin, Texas; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruth (Ted) Reich of La Verne, California; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Post was an active member of Clermont Bible Church, the Christian Women's Club and the Auxiliary of The Gideons International, for whom she distributed countless nurses New Testaments. She taught Sunday School and, blessed with the gift of hospitality, opened her home to "Five Day Clubs" where neighborhood children could learn Bible lessons in summer.

Also active in the community, Mrs. Post was a long-time Catskill Garden Club member, a Cub Scout Den Mother and belonged to the Treble Choraliers. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, music and sports, especially baseball.

Family and friends will gather at Millspaugh-Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill on Thursday, February 4th between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. A funeral home service will then be conducted at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Town of Catskill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be sent to Ravi Zacharias International Ministries (rzim.org) or Wycliffe Bible Translators (wycliffe.org).
