Ira A. Levy, of Gallatin, NY, passed away on April 13, 2018. A lawyer for more than 50 years, Ira was a superb golfer and modern-day renaissance man with a remarkable range of interests, from woodworking to painting, skiing to mechanics, military history to antiques.

Ira, age 89, grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School of Elizabeth, NJ, the University of California at Los Angeles and Rutgers Law School, he began his legal career as a Judge Advocate in the United States Air Force. He founded his law firm in Newark, NJ in 1958, with partner and lifelong friend Sandy Gallanter, where he dispensed wisdom and sure counsel. He was a member of Maplewood Country Club in Maplewood, NJ, where he vied for the club championship for many years and was sought out as a golf partner by young and old. He later joined Columbia Green Country Club in Claverack, NY, when he relocated permanently to Blue Bird Hill Farm of Gallatin in 2005. In retirement, Ira was involved in many Gallatin and Ancram civic organizations.

Ira is survived by his wife, Elaine Levy of Gallatin, NY; son Kurt Rogers, his wife Sharon, and grandchildren Grace, Jackson and Sarah Rogers of Lake Forest, IL; son Seth Levy and grandchildren Kiva and Makiyla Levy of Housatonic, MA; granddaughter Miranda Levy of Asheville, NC; and brother Mike Levy and his wife Rita of Ocala, FL. He is predeceased by his children, Patricia and Robert Levy.

Funeral services will be held for family and friends Sunday at noon at Temple Israel of Catskill, 220 Spring Street, Catskill, NY 12414, with a Shiva Open House following the service on Sunday, and from noon to 5 p.m on Monday and Tuesday.
