Born in Dallas, TX
Resided in Greenville, New York
Jim enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as hosting family events at his home. He truly appreciated the value of a family. Jim was First Vice Commander of Greenville American Legion Post, 291, President of the American Legion Riders Chapter 291, Greenville, a Member of the Greene County Honor a Vet Committee representing Greene County District No. 4 - Greenville, and a member and brother of the Catskill Elk’s Lodge #1341. Jim served in the Persian Gulf War (Desert Shield/ Desert Storm) and gave three tours of duty, honorably, before separating in 1995. Jim was a decorated E-5 Staff Sergeant, and he received many awards and honors during his tenure with the United States Air Force - a man of integrity. Jim’s unconditional love, warmth, kindness, charity and humor touched all that knew him. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. There was no such thing as stepchildren or stepgrandchildren in Jim’s eyes or heart. Jim accepted his wife’s family as his own from day one and loved them all dearly. He enjoyed teaching the grandchildren how to swim, ride an ATV, fish and much more. The grandchildren looked forward to pizza nights with Poppa Jim and Sunday dinners. Jim enjoyed cooking, helping his community, and he greeted all with his warm and infectious smile. He loved when he and his wife would hit the road on their motorcycle, go on vacation, and just create new, beautiful and loving memories. He valued and treasured those times.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Naomi Gordon of Greenville, NY, daughters Heather DeRosa-Gordon of Kingston, NY and Demetria Angel (Lee) of Greenville, NY; two sons DeMar Neal of Vermont and Dominique Vasquez of Catskill, NY; his loving parents Mr. Jimmy F. Gordon, Sr. (Kim) of Purdon, TX and Ms. Tina Dougherty Gordon of Duncanville, TX; two sisters Kim Cook (Pastor Gary) of Gun Barrel City, TX, and Gina Gordon of California; one brother Jason Gordon (Meridith) of Waxahachie, TX; loving mother-in-law Barbara Mason of Catskill, NY; eight beloved grandchildren (soon-to-be nine); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. We would be remiss if we did not mention Jim’s special and close friends Wayne Butterworth, Jr., Steve Worth, Tim Reed , Dave Cole, Michelle Black, Don Savino and Joe & Theresa Civitella. They were like family to Jim and he was grateful for their friendship. Jim was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Jim will be greatly missed, but may we all rejoice in the blessed knowledge that he is now resting in the Master’s hands. Sleep on take your rest, we loved you but God loved you best! Thank you for the beautiful and loving memories. Until we meet again…
