Mr. DeFrancesco was born in Beacon, NY on November 6, 1927 to the late Victor and Anna Pucino DeFrancesco. He studied music professionally and interrupted his drumming career to enlist in the Army in 1951. He served as a sniper in Korea until 1953 when he was injured by a grenade, earning him a Purple Heart and honorable discharge. Locally he was an drum instructor for the Drum and Bugle Corps and performed with Tony Salierno and Joan Tippins in their group The Avalons.
He was a former member of the VFW Posts in Catskill and Cairo and had a ceramic shop in Cairo for several years.
He is survived by his three children: Joseph DeFrancesco, Jr., Margaret-Ann "Maggie" Maben, and Gerard "Gerry" DeFrancesco; four grandchildren: Joseph DeFrancesco III, Amber Danielle Maben, Matthew DeFrancesco, and Judah Benjamin Maben; as well as great-granddaughter Gracie Annina DeFrancesco. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret DeFrancesco on November 29, 1996 and brother Conrad DeFrancesco on January 19, 1995.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, July 27 at 11 a.m. in the Cairo Cemetery under the direction of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill. Electronic condolences may be posted at www.millspaughcamerato.com
