Mario was born in Northern Italy on January 2, 1924 to the late Angelo and Matilda Austi Cargioli. He served in the Italian Army under Mussolini during WWII as a bomb detentator after which he immigrated to the United States. He married the former Maria Dolores Segalini and they and their children resided in Greenwich Village where he was a singing waiter at the famous Asti's until they moved to Palenville in 1965. He opened his own restaurant, "Mario's" in Saugerties, and upon it's closing continued his career as a professional chef throughout Catskill and Palenville including "Asti's", the Catskill Golf Club, Griffins and O'Boyes.
Mario is survived by his former wife Dee Cargioli of Catskill and their two children: Diane Jones and Robert Cargioli; two grandchildren: Stephen and Amber Jones; as well as two great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Jozlyn Jones.
Private cremation was conducted and the Albany Rural Crematorium and his cremated remains will be laid to rest with his mother in the Palenville Cemetery.
