Obituary

EASTHAM – Martin L. "Marty" Singer, 80, of Eastham, Mass. passed away on December 8, 2016, with his daughter, Marianne C. Singer at his bedside.

Marty, son of the late Pauline and Morris Singer, was born in Catskill, N.Y. He graduated in 1954 from Catskill High School, where he first met his wife of 42 years, Eleanore "Ellie" (Coty) Singer. Marty served in the US Army prior to graduating from Syracuse University in 1960. He received a Masters of Arts from SUNY Albany in 1966 and a Master of Science from Russell Sage College in 1980.

As a high school guidance counselor at Maple Hill High School in Schodack, N.Y. for over thirty years Marty shaped the lives of hundreds of students, many of whom have remained life-long friends.
A visitor to Cape Cod since the mid-sixties, Marty and Ellie built their home in Eastham in 1981. Both thoroughly enjoyed their stays on the Cape and after living in North Greenbush and Latham, N.Y. they moved permanently there in 2009. Marty especially enjoyed his time as a volunteer for the Lower Cape Outreach Council at The Hope Chest, in Orleans, MA where he received great pleasure in helping to provide for neighbors in need.

An avid cook and entertainer he was well known for his famous culinary artistry from stuffed clams, kugels, omelets and briskets to his annual Buche de Noel. All of these were paired with a perfectly prepared cocktail, wonderful conversations and always accompanied by family and good friends. He was known for his sharp wit, great sense of humor -- always being there for wise advice and love.
Family came first with Marty. He was a devoted husband and dad and was never without his constant companion, his pup, Moose. He will be greatly missed not only by his family but by his many dear friends. When recently speaking of the favorite events in his life, he identified his wedding, the birth of his daughter, Marianne, and his 80th birthday party.

Marty was predeceased by his wife Eleanore (Coty) Singer, his brother Walter Singer, his sister Bernice Tolin and his nephew Gerald Liepshutz. He is survived by his daughter, Marianne C. Singer, his nieces Mary Beth (David) Hitchcock, Paula Singer, Michelle Singer, nephew Paul (Pam) Liepshutz and several grandnieces and nephews.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17th from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill. Inurnment, in Temple Israel Cemetery, Catskill, will follow. A service, by Rabbi Zoe Zak of Temple Israel, will be conducted.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Hope Chest: P.O. Box 665, Orleans, MA 02653 or the Friends of the Eastham Council on Aging: P.O. Box 1203, North Eastham, MA 02651. Messages of condolence may be made to MillspaughCamerato.com.
