Obituary

Phillip E. Thorpe, 80, of Tannersville passed away on October 21, 2017.

He was born in Catskill, a son of the late Harry F. and Winifred Dougherty Thorpe. A lifetime mountaintop resident, Phillip graduated from Manlius Military Academy and Hobart William Smith College.

Upon graduation, he joined his father in the family automobile dealership. He owned and operated Thorpe’s Pontiac/GMC for more than 60 years. He was very proud to have his sons and grandson follow him into the business.

Like his father before him, he served his community as Town of Hunter Supervisor. He was a member of the Lions Club and NY State Automobile Dealers Assoc. for many years. An avid Lionel Train collector, Phillip was a lover of local and American history.

Loving husband of 59 years to Linda Helmer Thorpe; father of Pamela Harmon (Jack), Penelope Fromer (Jeff), Bradley Thorpe (Marianne) and Eric Thorpe (Amy); grandfather of Joshua Fromer, Ashley Dugan (Dillon), Justin and Matthew Harmon, Gregory and Michelle Thorpe; great grandfather of Emery and Paige Dugan.
Per his expressed wishes, a private graveside service will be conducted at Tannersville Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tannersville Evergeen Cemetery Assoc., POB 686, Tannersville, NY 12485. Messages of condolence may be made to MillspaughCamerato.com. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home, 139 Jefferson Hgts., Catskill.
