Thomas Gordon Wood, 73, formerly of Greenville, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

The son of Walter and May Seeley Wood, he was raised Oak Hill. After attending Greenville High School, Tom enlisted in the United States Army, completing basic training and airborne qualification. As a member of the 82nd Airborne Division he was assigned to the Communications Support Element of US Strike Command in Tampa, FL during the Cuban Missile Crises. Tom was a true patriot who believed that service to his country was both an honor and a privilege.

After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1964, Tom met Julia "Cam" Thompson while working at the Everglades Club in Palm Beach, FL. After a brief courtship, they were married on May 2nd, 1965.

Returning to Oak Hill in 1965, Tom began working at Central Hudson Gas and Electric as a Lineman, ultimately rising to the position of Operations Supervisor. Tom retired from Central Hudson in 1999 with 34 years of service. He had many friends at Central Hudson and took great pride in the work he did there.

Tom was a strong believer in service to his community. He served the Town of Durham as Town Justice for five years and on the Town Board for ten years. He was a representative of Central Hudson with the Greene/Columbia United Way Board and an active member of the Rainbow Golf Club in Greenville. A life member of NRA, Tom was also a member of Post #291 American Legion in Greenville and a life member of Oak Hill/Durham Volunteer Fire Company where he held the positions of President and Assistant Chief. At the time of his passing, he was Treasurer of the Longwood Homeowners Association.

As an avid sportsman, Tom enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends and was known to spend much of his free time on the golf course. Tom always had an open door policy and his home was yours. Without a thought to himself he would gladly help a brother, neighbor, friend or perfect stranger.

Tom's greatest joy was his family. He cherished his wife Cam and was very proud of his daughters Lisa and Jodi. Tom loved spending time with his grandchildren, sharing his wisdom and tales of his youth.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, Julia "Cam" Wood, he is survived by daughters Lisa Wood Butler and husband Jack of Rock Hall, MD, Jodi Wood DiMasi and husband Marty of Merrill, NY. Siblings George Wood, of Durham, Stephen Wood of Rensselaerville, Walter Wood of Middleburg, Linda Richards of Spokane Valley, Washington and the late Ilene Baitsholts. Grandchildren Travis Hunt, Garet Hunt, Nikayla DiMasi, Michael DiMasi & Alexandra Butler. Many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and friends also survive.
