Obituary

William George Stacey, Jr. "Bill", age 81 a life long resident of Athens, NY, died Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the Fireman's Home of the City of New York on Harry Howard Avenue in Hudson, where he has resided with his beloved wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Rose (Riley) Stacey since May 21, 2007.
He was born in Athens, NY on August 28, 1925 to the late William George Stacey, Sr. and Nora Mae (Haner) Stacey. He was employed as an automotive mechanic with the Greene County Highway Department in Catskill until his retirement on January 10, 1981 due to poor health. An active member of his community, Bill became a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in 1946 and joined the William H. Morton Engine Company #1in 1973 where he's currently a life member. He's a fourth generation member of the Athens Volunteer Fire Department, Inc., became a member of the NYS Volunteer Firemen's Association in 1975, is a past member of the Greene County Volunteer Firemen's Assoc., a current member of the Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen's Assoc. and the Royal Order of Blue Vests of the Hudson Valley, and became a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge in 1945.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth R. "Betty" Stacey and their son, George F. Stacey, Sr. and daughter-in-law Linda M. Stacey of Athens; his brother and sister-in-law, Daniel H. "Dan" and Lenora "Ann" Stacey of Athens; his grandson, George F. Stacey, Jr., who has actively served for 18 years in the US Air Force and his wife Kimmarie Stacey; his granddaughter, Cheryl Lynn (Stacey) Alberti and her husband Peter "Pete" Alberti of Athens; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 23 at 11 a.m. in the Remembrance Chapel of the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights with Rev. Bruce K. Benander, Pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church in Athens officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Athens. Friends and relatives are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday, July 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. Firematic services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Arthritis Foundation, or the American Heart Association.
