The son of the late Herbert and Clara Moore Cook, he was born in Coxsackie and raised in Athens. Bill proudly served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946. As a Sergeant of the Military Police Corps stationed in India, China, and Burma, Bill received the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
Bill was the proprietor of Cook's Esso Service Station in Jefferson Heights, Catskill, NY prior to relocating to Punta Gorda, Florida in 1971. In Florida, Bill was the automotive service manager at Charlotte County Ford and then construction supervisor at Risser Oil Co. in Port Charlotte.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose Perelka Cook of Punta Gorda; son-in-law, Gary Farbman of Pine Bush, NY; granddaughter Melissa Farbman-Johnson of Fairfax, VA and grandson Jason Farbman of Albany, NY. He was predeceased by his daughter, Karen Cook Farbman.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 18, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Town of Catskill Cemetery Veteran's Lot with Rev. Victor Nelson, Pastor of the Ressurection Lutheran Church in Cairo officiating. Those attending may meet at the Millspaugh Camerato Funeral Home at 139 Jefferson Heights in Catskill for procession to the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 1144 Veronica St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
